The Priory Church is an Anglican parish church in Leominster, Herefordshire, England, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul. The building was constructed for a Benedictine Priory in about the 13th century, although there had been an Anglo-Saxon monastery in Leominster, possibly on the same site. In 1539 the east end of the church was destroyed along with most of the monastic buildings, but the main body of the church was preserved. Quatrefoil piers were inserted between 1872 and 1879 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The building is a grade I listed building.
We are a welcoming and inclusive church in the rural market town of Leominster, in the Diocese of Hereford.
Whether you would like to come to a church service, are enquiring about a special event, such as a wedding or a christening or are a visitor; this page will help you find the information you need. Leominster Priory is open to visitors daily from 10am-4pm. Please note dogs are not allowed inside the Priory with the exception of assistance dogs.
Leominster Priory is part of Leominster Team Ministry which includes 23 churches: The Eastern Parishes of Stoke Prior, Kimbolton, Hamnish, Hatfield, Ford, Hope-under-Dinmore, Pudleston, Bockleton, Middleton-on-the-Hill, Leysters, Humber, and Docklow.
The Western Parishes of Dilwyn, Orleton, Brimfield, Eyton, Eye, Yarpole, Croft, Luston, Ivington, and Monkland.
Toilets are located on the far side of the Church towards the back of the kitchen in the Norman Nave. These include a baby changing station. Toilets are usually open when services or other events are taking place, but not on a daily basis. There are public toilets available on The Grange (public park) 5 mins walk from the Priory.
Kitchen We also have a kitchen area at the Priory that we can use for refreshments after services (including funerals), for Messy Church and for our monthly bring and share meal, ‘Rendez-vous’.
Stairs and Ramps This ancient building has many different levels and the floor surfaces can be worn or uneven in places, so please take extra care.
The central nave is accessible, although at the east end in St. Paul’s Chapel some assistance might be necessary where there are two rises of about 15cm. Prior to church services there is normally a temporary metal ramp set up for this purpose. We have a temporary ramp in the building so that wheelchair users or anyone who struggles with steps can access the much lower Norman Nave (where refreshments are served after some services).
If you would like to receive communion during a service but don’t feel comfortable walking up to the stations at the front, please let someone know before the service and one of the people distributing communion will bring it to you at your seat.
Hearing Loop The Priory has a hearing loop that is used for all services.
Children’s Area Children are always very welcome – at any age, bring them along with you. Your child probably will make a noise, and that is fine – we would rather have the noise and your child and you. We are happy for you to get up and move around if it helps. There is a children’s area with books and toys, where your child is welcome to play. You can either play too or sit in a chair next to the children’s area to supervise.
After 10 am Sunday services drinks and biscuits are usually available near to the area used for refreshments.
Parking There is on street parking around The Grange (2 hours) and on Church Street (1 hour) and also pay and display parking in the Broad Street Car Park with footpath access to the church from the end of the car park. You can drop people off at the door to the church by driving through the gates on Church Street and exiting the church drive through the gates into The Grange. There is very limited space for disabled parking in the churchyard.
