Leominster Heritage Guides was formed in 2024 to provide regular guided walks around historic Leominster. The LHG team of volunteer guides will be offering walks throughout the Priory 900 celebrations.
The decision by King Henry I, son of William the Conqueror, to re-found the town’s ancient monastic settlement and build an elegant new church of stone in the 1120s was a watershed in Leominster’s long history. The town evolved as a planned Norman borough, resulting in the emergence of a new urban elite, the burgesses, and the growth of trade and guilds. As part of a broad history, our walk pays special regard to the role of the Priory and the impact of 12th century Norman town planning on Leominster, its street pattern and markets.
The easy-paced, fully accessible walk-and-talk of up to 90 minutes begins outside Leominster Information Centre, Corn Square. Tickets, £5, can be booked at the centre. There is no charge for (accompanied) children wishing to take part.
The walks are taking place in June and July on Saturdays at 11am and Wednesdays at 2pm. The June dates are Saturday 14, Wednesday 18, Saturday 21, Wednesday 25 and Saturday 28. July dates Wednesday 2, Saturday 5, Wednesday 9 and Saturday 12.
