Friday 4 July 7pm French Connections
Hilary Norris (organ) is joined by Stuart Essenhigh (trumpet) for a programme demonstrating the continuing influence of our French neighbours on English music. Including works by Purcell, Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Widor. £10 Under 18s free.
Stuart Essenhigh is one of the leading trumpeters in the country: Principal Trumpet with the English Symphony Orchestra and Sub-Principal Trumpet with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. He appears regularly as a soloist with international orchestras and has recorded with many leading orchestras and soloists, including movie soundtracks and television commercials. Stuart is from Herefordshire, and is pleased to be on home turf to play with Hilary Norris, Director of Music at Leominster Priory who will play the fabulous, recently restored, Nicholson Organ. Hilary specialises with playing with instrumentalists of all kinds, but says ‘there is nothing as thrilling as trumpet and organ in a beautiful building with a fine acoustic’. Inspired by the Norman theme of the festival, the programme will explore the fascinating links between English and French music over the centuries.
