A day of crafts and Norman fun for all ages.
Fuzzy Felt Patch Workshop: Join illustrators and folk art enthusiasts Marion Elliot and Desdemona McCannon to create felt applique patches inspired by the church kneelers in Leominster Priory. Church kneelers are a joyous form of folk art found in churches around the land. They often tell stories about the local community, and describe the wildlife, plants, buildings and notable events that have occurred in the parish. Made slowly with care by hand they bring colour and warmth to often chilly surroundings! Inspired by images of medieval monastic life, you will make a felt patch which can be worn or sewn onto a bag.
Stone Carving: Experiment with making your own design based on the Herefordshire School of Romanesque Sculpture. The Llangarron Stone Carvers are delighted to offer FREE demonstrations of stone carving, with the opportunity for you to have a go. Any would-be stone carvers MUST wear stout shoes. Wear old clothes if possible. Full tuition, stone, safety goggles, aprons and tools provided. The Llangarron Stone Carvers are a group of amateur stone carvers who have been carving for 10 years and hold monthly workshops, led by Glen Morris RSA. A small exhibition of their work will be on display in the Priory during the celebrations. Try traditional spinning, weaving and embroidering with The Teme Valley Embroiderers and Whyle Crafts, have fun with fuzzy felt exploring designs, and make a mini-monk with Leominster Knit and Knatter. Take a photo of yourself in Norman dress in our selfie corner. Refreshments, Norman games and more.
