Sunday 6th July 4.30pm Plainsong Workshop followed at 6pm by a Compline by Candlelight Service.
Everyone is welcome to join in a plainsong workshop at 4.30pm followed by a beautiful, meditative service at 6pm in candlelight in the evocative Norman Nave of Leominster Priory.
The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning ‘completion’ (completorium).
It has its origins in the monastic office for the end of the day. It is a ‘night prayer’, giving thanks for the day past, for all past worshippers in this place, and in entrusting ourselves to God’s protection during the night ahead.
Most of the service is sung by the choir to plainsong which is simple chant that has been used since the earliest days of the Church, including the Benedictine monks that would have been in the Priory 900 years ago.
If you would like to join the workshop that starts at 4.30pm and then sing in the choir for the service at 6pm please click here to email us with your name and contact details.
