Rob Walker – architectural historian and stained-glass expert, will lead a tour of five of North Herefordshire’s best Norman churches.The tour will start out at Leominster Priory.

Robert Walker, an architectural historian, will explore five of the best Norman churches in the area, all featured in his new booklet, ‘Norman Art and Architecture in North Herefordshire’. Starting at Leominster Priory at 10am, the tour will continue to Middleton and Bockleton (Bromyard), followed by lunch (bring your own sandwiches), and then on to Orleton, Yarpole and Shobdon. Join Rob for illuminating and expert interpretations of Orleton’s impressive font of c1150 with nine apostles, the iconic Shobdon arches, Bockleton’s fine doorways, Yarpole’s detached belfry and the evocative Middleton-on-the-hill, the most complete Norman church in the tour. Transport available (minibus) from Leominster Priory at 10am, drop-off at Priory 4pm.

11.10am – St Michael’s, Bockleton WR15 8PS,
12pm – St Peter’s Bromyard HR7 4D2
Lunch – bring your own sandwiches
1.30 – St George’s, Orleton SY8 4HU
2.30 – St John the Evangelist, Shobdon HR6 9LZ (including a short walk on grass to view Shobdon Arches)
3.30 – return to Leominster Priory 4.00 end
All the churches have wheelchair accessible ramps. Toilets are available at The Priory, Shobden, Orleton and Bromyard.
